Day Five-More Shopping and Jiko!

Since we left Magic Kingdom at 2:30am last night, we did not get to bed until 3:30am. We were tired and slept until noon today, so we decided to get a nice lunch and do a little more shopping.

For lunch, we went to Bahama Breeze. Bahama Breeze is a Caribbean style chain restaurant. There are only a handful of locations spread throughout the US. Their food is always fresh and very flavorful.

I started with the Fired Roasted Jerk Shrimp. It is large shrimp roasted in a beer/butter sauce loaded with spices. A small loaf of Cuban bread for dipping is included. The dish is very good with just the right amount of heat (they use Scotch Bonnet peppers in the dish).

My wife started with the Chicken Tortilla Soup.

For entrees, I choose the Jerk Chicken Pasta. It is jerk marinated chicken, asparagus and bowtie pasta in a cream sauce. My wife had wood-grilled chicken in a citrus butter sauce with a side of mashed sweet potatoes and broccoli. Both dishes were very good.

After lunch, we went to the Florida Mall. The mall is no different that your average mall except for the M&Ms store.

After the Florida Mall, we went to AMC theaters in Downtown Disney and watched Death at a Funeral. The movie was just OK, but it was nice and cool in the theater. After the movie, we headed back to the room to relax and shower for dinner at Jiko.

We arrived at Jiko five minutes before our reservation time and were seated in no time. Jiko is a WDW signature restaurant and features cooking with an African flair. They brought a basket of bread to the table. They bake cinnamon into the bread. It was OK, not great.

We started with the Barbecue Chicken Flatbread. It is a wood oven roasted flatbread with an African barbecue sauce, cheese, chicken and julienne apples/jicama on top. It was very good.

Next, I had a seasonal salad with peaches and my wife had the braised beet salad. Both were good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

For our entrees, I had the oak grilled filet with mac & cheese in a red wine sauce. The filet was much better than the Yachtsman beef we have later in the trip. My wife had the barbecue beef short ribs. Again, both dishes were very good.

For dessert, we split the Jiko trio. It is caramel ice cream, flourless chocolate cake and chocolate mousse. It too was very good. Jiko is a bit expensive but worth it and a restaurant that is a must do for us every time we visit WDW.
